“CLASSIC 95+” Rating: The 2007 Kamen Cabernet is a powerful expression of Sonoma hillside fruit. In the glass are pronounced aromas of ripe cassis, roasted dark raspberry and cherry, with notes of violets, rose petals, wet stone, mocha and spicy oak. The mouth seamlessly integrates black fruit and a solid spine of soft, supple tannins. The full, round mid-palate showcases the balance of acid, fruit and tannins persist with a lasting finish. 95+ POINTS THE WINE INSIDERS
Set on top of a mountain, just behind the famed Monte Rosse vineyard, the Kamen Estate offers both breathtaking views and show-stopper Cabernets! Crafted by cult winemaker Mark Herald (Merus 2007 = $150) the Kamen Estate Cabernet Sonoma 2007 showcases just what a distinguished mountain-top vineyard can produce in the finest vintages. You have to taste this juice to believe it. And now, as a special favor to Porthos, they’re offering our subscribers 22% off each bottle from this vintage of a lifetime.
VINEYARD BACKGROUND: The Kamen vineyard potential was discovered by accident, when a group of Napa winemakers visited it to asses it for insurance purposes and they couldn’t believe what they found. They quickly convinced owner Robert Kamen to develop it, and did he ever, bringing in top Phil Coturri and superstar winemaker Mark Herald.
