Why? This Merlot is by far Robert Parker’s favorite from California (see below) so don’t miss this one-time-only chance to add a few extremely rare bottles of Pahlmeyer, #1 ‘Cult’ Collector Merlot in America to your cellar! Truly a ‘must have’ for any serious Napa red wine collector.
PORTHOS TASTING NOTES (2/2008): Consistently one of the top 5 merlot each vintage, Pahlmeyer’s 2005 Merlot is an age-worthy thriller for fans that have been tracking the winery’s success for the past 2 decades. Tightly wound flavors of melted chocolate, roasted coffee, black cherry, and smoky oak jumps from the glass of this full-bodied, opulent, sexy Merlot. It is a delicious, savory, heady wine to drink over the next 7-8 years. While you can certainly open this bad boy anytime you’re ready for a thrill rode of the taste buds, we highly recommend decanting if you plan to pop the cork prior to 2010! Upon release (Feb. 2008) we actually enjoyed a ‘day old’ sample the most. Try it.
ROBERT PARKER TASTES: Robert Parker rating 94 points! “The 2005 Merlot is looking sensational…Blended with 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine reveals distinctive black cherry and berry notes intermixed with chocolate, mocha, caramel, and scorched earth. The wine is full-bodied, fleshy, but has underlying acidity and a long, layered finish. This wine can be drunk now or cellared for another 15+ years. The charismatic Jayson Pahlmeyer and his exuberant winemaker, Erin Green, who apprenticed for Helen Turley for many years, are turning out some fabulous wines.”
