ROBERT PARKER TASTING NOTES “Classic 95” points: “This 17-acre vineyard on the eastern side of Napa is owned by Charles and Shirley Roy. Located in what is known as the Soda Canyon area, the vineyard was planted under the direction of Helen Turley, but today’s winemaker is Philippe Melka. This wine exhibits very Bordeaux-like notes of black currants, chocolate, underbrush, and some background oak. With beautiful sweet fruit, striking elegance, well-integrated acidity, and a dense ruby/purple color and medium to full body, this will be a long-lived wine. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025. 95 points”
Porthos Comments: “so you’ve read the ‘hype’ above… but we promise you’ll be even more seduced by its taste profile because this wine is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY delicious. If there was ever a $99 ‘Bargain’ from Napa this is IT. I plan to add several bottles to my personal cellar!” Hal Oates, Porthos.com
PORTHOS INSIDER SCOOP: Exciting ‘small world’ connection is that the original winemaker for this vintage of Roy Estate was “rock star” Helen Turley before Melka came in to finish the vintage. Hence, this wine has been co-created by arguably the most famous male and female winemakers in Napa today!
