Whetstone Bella Vigne Pinot Noir 2006 - $69.99

INSIDER SCOOP? Affable owner/winemaker Jamey Whetstone apprenticed under none other than Larry TURLEY for years and then worked at famed Burgundy producer Domaine Dujac to fine tune his Pinot skills. Today, Whetsone is producing flashy Pinot Noir guaranteed to thrill anyone who thought Pinot was a wimpy grape.

THE WINE INSIDERS 93 RATING: "This exciting new discovery is a truly delicious, undiscovered boutique Pinot (less than 200 cases produced)! The aromas are so racy they come dashing out of the glass like a European sports car but the full throttle fruit flavors are pure California! Flamboyant dark cherry, dried raspberries, and sweet tart strawberries are pronounced in the beginning while savory mushroom/truffle flavors carry through to the big finish that lasts a full 30 seconds on the palate with a tantalizing hint of soy. This is a savory wine now and should expand in succulent flavors over the next 2 – 3 years, peaking in 2010 most likely.

PORTHOS INSIDER SCOOP: This is a sensuous wine that will match well with grilled Lamb, Duck, or Coq Au’ Vin tonight but should age nobly for the next 3 - 5 years!
