For more than a decade now, Porthos founder Hal Oates has loved collecting Marcassin and Williams Selyem’s rarest Pinot Noir. Similar to many connoisseurs, he has lamented that no other California Pinots are in that league for the ‘Wow’ factor + long-term enjoyment. Hence, Oates enlisted the substantial talents (and resources) of the 100 point INSIGNIA team at Joseph Phelps, featuring their winemaker who’s an alumnus of Williams Selyem. They have collaborated to create one barrel of select Pinot to contend with the aforementioned Cult legends. Note: per the name, only ONE BARREL has been crafted (that’s just 6 bottles per state), so please don’t delay.

“This majestic new One Barrel Pinot 2021 features a velvety smooth texture ripe for enjoyment tonight and deftly balances an array of robust dark fruit flavors while maintaining a sense of finesse and age-worthy elegance. The intensely satisfying palate boasts luxurious notes of raspberry, kirsch, exotic baking spices, espresso beans and a provocative finish (60+ seconds) that offers creamy oak, black truffles and white pepper. This voluptuous experience will dazzle this year (decant prior to 2025) or anytime through 2030+. Bravo!” (11/2022)
