OVID Cabernet Blend Hexameter 2021
Details
100 Points | CWA
“This inky-colored, awe-inspiring masterpiece offers an intoxicating bouquet of black raspberries, cassis, violets, and baking spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and impeccably balanced, with ultra-fine tannins and a purity of fruit that is both captivating and ethereal. The seamless oak integration enhances its structure without overwhelming its freshness. Vibrant blackberry notes and hints of orange zest and thyme add layers of complexity, while subtle spice, herbal undertones, and a distinct mineral streak lend further depth. Glorious notes of dark chocolate, truffles and Cohiba cigar frame the lengthy finish currently. Though tightly wound at the moment, it promises extraordinary evolution over the next 10–15 years. A truly legendary wine that is both powerful and elegant, reminiscent of vintages of neighbors Colgin Cellars and Dalla Valle Maya. 99 now (decant 30 minutes) and 100+ after 3 - 5 years in the cellar.” - California Wine Advisors (3/2025)
98 Points | JS
“Effusive blueberry and rose petal aromas, then juicy, appetizing black and red berries in this multilayered blend based on cabernet franc. Blueberry syrup meets light wood char, star anise and grilled herbs, but the fruit dominates. The tannins are so racy. Best after 2028.” - James Suckling
98 Points | D
“The wine is compact and tightly wound, showcasing precise black-toned fruits, licorice, dried sage, bay laurel, cast iron, and cedarwood. It is full-bodied and polished, with firm, taut, fine-grained tannins. Delicate red berry fruit intertwines with cedar and walnut husk, supported by a firm spine of acidity that maintains freshness.” - Decanter
98 Points | JD (Barrel Notes)
“Looking at the 2021 barrel samples, the 2021 Hexameter checks in as 42% Cabernet Franc, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot. It has lots of Cabernet Franc character in its currant bud, sappy flower, violet, and dark chocolate-laced aromatics, and it's full-bodied, with a vibrant, surprisingly fresh and focused mouthfeel and a gorgeous finish.” - Jeb Dunnuck
