98 Point Tasting Notes:
“The new Ovid Experiment is a silky-smooth new Cabernet we heartily recommend for fans of rich-tasting mountain fruit and velvety, mouth-coating tannins. Symphony of harmonious flavors include blackberry, dark cherry, plum, cedar, leather, pipe tobacco, espresso and hints of creamy toffee on the elaborate finish. We recommend decanting prior to 2025 and predict this age-worthy gem will continue to thrill through 2031+.” - California Wine Advisors

Robert Parker On Ovid:
“The wines of Ovid have been extraordinary since I first tasted them. This is not a big property, just a mere 15 acres, high on Pritchard Hill. Winemaker Austin Peterson gets consulting help from Andy Erickson, and my recollection is that Michel Rolland also provided assistance at some point. Viticulturalist to the superstars, David Abreu, manages the vineyard. Everything they do is fermented in concrete tanks except for the Syrah, and the wines typically spend just under two years in mostly new oak and are bottled with minimal, if any, clarification. All of these wines obviously display great fragrance, purity and incredible equilibrium/balance. Ovid keeps raising the bar with this drop-dead gorgeous set of new releases. Owners Dana Johnson and Mark Nelson have spared no expense in their pursuit to make world-class wines. These new releases are a testament to their unwavering commitment to quality. This year I also tasted two of the ‘Experiment’ series wines, which bear creative names inspired by Dana Johnson’s background in Library Sciences. The talented Austin Peterson makes the wines, Andy Erickson consults and David Abreu manages the vineyards, but what really counts is what is in the bottle. The results so far from this young property have been nothing less than stellar.” - Wine Advocate #204 and #222
