Understanding Wine Ratings
Professional wine ratings can be a useful tool when evaluating a bottle, but they are only one part of the story. At Porthos, we believe the most important score is the one assigned by your own palate.
Our role is not simply to recommend highly-rated wines, but to help each client discover the wines they are most likely to enjoy based on their unique tastes, collecting goals, and cellar priorities.
Ratings Matter. Personal Taste Matters More.
While ratings may influence your decision, the ultimate judgment is your palate. One of the most valuable benefits Porthos provides to collectors is honest, unbiased guidance tailored to individual preferences rather than simply following scores.
The ratings displayed throughout our website are based on the widely accepted 100-point quality scale used by leading wine critics and publications. Each publication applies its own methodology, tasting criteria, and editorial perspective when evaluating wines.
Some reviews are published as score ranges rather than a single rating. In those cases, Porthos displays the highest score within the published range.
